Woe to the Lawyers! (Part 2)

In Luke 11:37-54 Jesus teaches us about the nature of true obedience by way of contrast with the false obedience of the Pharisees and Lawyers. This past Sunday we considered Jesus’ second and third “Woes” against the Lawyers. Jesus rebuked the Lawyers for paying lip service to the prophets while actually rejecting them. As people who are confessionally committed to the absolute authority of God’s Word in all questions of faith and practice, we would do well to ask ourselves if there are areas in our lives where that commitment is little more than lip service.
